About
Launched in 2026, BirdPhotography.com is a learning home and community for anyone who loves birds and wants to photograph them better—from curious beginners to seasoned shooters. We bring together step-by-step video courses, an online bird photography book, practical articles, webinars, live training, and a space to connect with fellow bird photographers, so you always have a clear, supportive path for growing your skills.
Founded by wildlife photographer Gerrit Vyn, the platform blends years of field experience with a deep love of natural history and wildlife. Here, learning bird photography isn’t just about camera settings; it’s about understanding birds, their behavior, and the stories your images can tell.
As our community grows, we’ll keep adding new ways to learn and connect: member forums, image-critique groups where you can share your work and get thoughtful feedback, live Q&As, and a digital magazine. Everything is designed to make your journey easier, more enjoyable, and more rewarding—whether you’re photographing backyard visitors or traveling to pursue your passion.
Our mission is simple: help you become a better bird photographer and a more knowledgeable naturalist, with clear guidance, trustworthy instruction, and a supportive community around you.
Come join us inside BirdPhotography.com and start your next chapter as a bird photographer.
GERRIT VYN, Founder
Gerrit Vyn is a wildlife photographer, cinematographer, and conservationist with more than 30 years of experience documenting birds around the world. A longtime producer for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Senior Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers, he uses his images and films—from National Geographic and The New York Times to PBS Nature—to share both the beauty of birds and the urgency of conserving them and their habitats. His work has helped draw attention to at-risk species and critical ecosystems, connecting science, storytelling, and public action. Through BirdPhotography.com and his books, including the New York Times bestseller The Living Bird and the guide Photography: Birds, Gerrit offers clear, practical teaching for photographers of all levels, with a special focus on helping the next generation build skills, confidence, and a lasting relationship with birds and wildlife.
